Hello? Is this thing on?
What is this?
So I spontaneously, sort of, decided to get a writing blog. Actually, it’s something I’ve thought about for a while, but didn’t think I would do. So then there I was, sort of late evening on a Sunday. Let me look up an article on how to make a writing blog. Then how about I click a couple links. I’m just researching, right?
Some minutes later (I can’t tell…it’s a blur) and I have a domain registered, WordPress installed, and a premium theme I didn’t actually mean to pay for. That’s when it dawned on me….I hadn’t done any web design for almost 20 years.
And I think a bit has changed with the Internet since then.
So, now what?
Originally, the idea was to try to get a following and some exposure for when I (inevitably) write the next huge and famous novel. But come on. I’m a full-time teacher, and even fuller-time father of 3 young kids.
So I thought maybe this could be some sort of a record of my attempts to go from lowly wannabe, to maybe a “real writer” – whatever THAT may be.
If you are a fellow writing-hopeful, maybe you can comment and share your experience.
Can it be done?
I have learned some things recently that showed me this whole thing is possible. For one, my big New Years Resolution was to write every day…at the bare minimum 300 words. And I’ve done it so far…every day since January 1st. That includes days when I was alone with all 3 kids and nursing a fever of 101, hardly able to move on the couch. So if I can write even a little bit then, what is my excuse on the regular days?
So if you are an aspiring writer like me, maybe some of this will sound familiar. Maybe together we can learn that we are capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for.
